Scientology and Dianetics Training Services
WHAT IS TRAINING?
The practice of Scientology is comprised of auditing (spiritual counseling) and training. One becomes free through auditing, while training provides one the knowledge of how to remain so.
Inside every Church of Scientology are special rooms where parishioners study the written works and listen to recorded lectures of L. Ron Hubbard in a precise order set forth on a checksheet. A Course Supervisor is present in each course room to assist Scientologists to attain full understanding of the material they are learning. A Course Supervisor does not teach, lecture or interpret in any way, but instead refers students to the correct material if they are experiencing difficulty. Because of the checksheets and Supervisor's role, parishioners studying Scientology materials are able to proceed at their own pace. Training ranges from introductory courses to advanced, encompassing studies of the higher levels of scripture. There are courses where one can learn to minister Scientology counseling as an auditor. Auditor is defined as "one who listens," from the Latin audire, meaning "to hear or listen."
Auditor training includes an intensive series of drills on every aspect of delivering an auditing session. Films on important aspects of the subject are used to facilitate learning the practical applications of auditing. A student learns his techniques cold, for in every Church of Scientology there is but one passing standard: A student who graduates is expected to minister a 100 percent perfect auditing session every time. Through Scientology training, that standard is reached daily.
The end result of auditor training is that an individual is able to minister to another person. But because Scientology offers an understanding of human behavior and what lies behind everyday problems, training as an auditor also provides individuals with the means of dealing with life itself.
WHAT IS STUDY TECHNOLOGY?
Study Technology is the term given to the methods L. Ron Hubbard developed to enable individuals to study effectively.
Mr. Hubbard recognized the failings of modern education in the 1950s, many years before poor student performance began to make headlines. He observed that students were simply unable to learn with comprehension. Sometimes they could repeat, parrot-fashion, what they had been taught. But they were unable to apply the subject supposedly "learned" with any facility or understanding.
Mr. Hubbard then researched the subject of study and isolated the actual barriers to effective learning. He found the problem was not overwork, crammed study schedules or incompetent teachers. Rather, he discovered that the main impediment to a student's ability to retain and effectively use data was the absence of a technology of how to study. This included his discovery of what are known as the three barriers to study and Study Technology includes the precise methods to overcome these barriers.
Learning these methods to grasp the materials of the Scientology scriptures is a crucial step in one's spiritual journey and renders the student better able to use and apply Scientology principles. "Study Tech," as it is sometimes referred to, is so embracive that it can be applied by anyone to the study of any subject.
Study Tech is not a gimmicky "quick-study method," but an exact technology that anyone can use to learn a subject or to acquire a new skill.
SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN AUDITING SERVICES BEFORE TRAINING?
L. Ron Hubbard has written many times about the fact that 50 percent of one's gains from Scientology come from training and 50 percent are from auditing?. It is actually impossible to successfully advance through the upper levels of Scientology without having participated in certain training. Therefore, to get the most from Scientology and to make the greatest spiritual advance, one should progress in training at the same rate as one progresses in auditing.
WHEN CAN I PARTICIPATE IN SCIENTOLOGY TRAINING?
Most Churches of Scientology are open from 9:00 in the morning until 10:00 at night weekdays, and 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on weekends. Several different training sessions are scheduled within these hours.
The Church of Scientology, Mission of Victoria is open for study Saturday 10:00am to 5:00pm. Sunday 1:00pm to 5:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
WHAT FORM DOES SCIENTOLOGY TRAINING TAKE?
Scientology training is unique. Services are organized around a checksheet, which is "a list of materials, often divided into sections, that give the theory and practical steps which, when completed, give one a study completion" on that subject. Practical exercises include drills to perfect application. Each student moves through the checksheet at his own speed. No one is ever held back or pressured to go too fast. A trained Course Supervisor is always available to help the parishioner, to refer them to the exact materials, to answer their questions and ensure they are applying standard Study Technology to gain the full benefits from their training.
HOW LONG DO TRAINING SERVICES TAKE?
Each service takes as long as it takes for the individual to go through the checksheet at his own pace. The length of each service will also depend on how many hours one studies per week. On the average, Scientology training takes anywhere from a few days (for many introductory services) to several months (for more advanced training).
The Saint Hill Special Briefing Course, which is a chronological study of all materials of Dianetics and Scientology, takes approximately one year, at forty hours a week. This study gives the Scientologist the entire philosophic and technical development of the religion, and is the most extensive training course in Scientology.
